Così spiegherei la mostra a un ex operaio di Lambrate: ci sono quaranta designer messi insieme da due curatrici in uno spazio indipendente per ragionare sul ruolo del design oggi. Si chiedono se è quantificabile il valore della creatività in un prodotto. Può una bilancia pesare un gas immateriale? Solo qualche volta, e qui non basta a sorreggere la domanda iniziale: quanto pesa il design? Oggi un progetto, che sia una caffettiera o uno scooter (un tempo di casa da quelle parti) è chiamato a risolvere emergenze ambientali, ad arginare disastri naturali, a rispondere di crisi economiche, a sostituire abitudini. Non dimentichiamocelo.

This is the way I would explain this exhibition to an ex-worker from Lambrate: there are forty designers, gathered by two curators in an independent location to discuss the role of design today. They wonder whether it is possible to set a price for a product’s creativity. Can a scale weigh an immaterial gas? Only sometimes, and here it is not enough to support the original question: how much does design weigh? Today a project, be it a coffee maker or a scooter (the last being once very familiar over there), is meant to solve environment issues, contain natural disasters, answer for economic crisis, substitute old habits. Let’s not forget about this.
